  Attorney Smith was born in a suburb of Cleveland, Ohio in 1981 but his parents soon returned to their home State of Illinois. One of seven children, he graduated high school with honors from Christian Life Center. He went on to further his education at Western Illinois University, where he graduated summa cum laude in 2003. He earned an Honors Baccalaureate Degree in Philosophy, with minors in Pre-Law and Spanish. He was also twice recognized as an outstanding advocate at the Model Illinois Government's Moot Court Competition. Attorney Smith then attended law school at Northern Illinois University, where he was recognized as the Zeke Giorgi Legal Scholar. Mr. Smith also served for several semesters under distinguished professor of Civil Procedure Jeffrey Parness. While still in law school, Mr. Smith participated in a study abroad program in comparative and European Union Law in Agen, France. Mr. Smith graduated law school, again with academic distinction, and began his career in providing legal and criminal defense services. Mr. Smith joined the Winnebago County Public Defender's Office, where he served between 2006 and 2008. He then joined a private criminal defense firm, where he worked for nearly 10 years before starting his own law firm.
